Going through some old boxes today in order to prepare for our yard sale in a couple of weeks, I came across a box of my old journals that had been ruined by water damage. I don’t mean a couple of wet spots. I mean full on mold and mud like ick caked on to the books. This makes me terribly sad since I had always planned on putting my writing together in a single book so my kids could see what their mama was all about. If you could read what your mother had been thinking about when she was 12, 16, 20… would you? I would. I know that I’ll never know what my mother was really like as a teenager no matter how many stories she tells, because she doesn’t have her thoughts at that age written down. Oh well, we all loose things I guess. Material things that we’ve forgotten we even had. Maybe in this time of having so little it hurts a little more to know that even my childhood memories aren’t mine to keep.
If anyone reads this and knows how to restore water damaged books, please let me know. I would be very grateful.
I was just searching for about this when I came upon your blog post. I’m simply visiting to say that I very much enjoyed seeing this post, it’s really well written. Are you going to write more on this? It looks like there is more fodder here for later posts.
Thanks for writing, I really enjoyed your newest post. I think you should post more often, you obviously have talent for blogging!
Thanks a lot!
