I realized just now that I haven’t really talked about how goat’s milk has become such an important part of our lives lately. We made the transition from his bottle of organic formula before bed, to goat’s milk a couple of months ago for the economic savings and because even the more natural formula’s ingredients make me nervous. He loves the creamy texture and I add a bit of brown rice syrup to the milk to add a touch of sweetness. No gas and it lulls him off to sleep almost every time.
Then at Miles’ last visit to the pediatrician, she told me that it was OK to start giving him yogurt and cottage cheese now for added protein and calcium in his diet. So I went right out and bought a container of organic cottage cheese and one of goat’s milk yogurt. I had tried goat’s milk yogurt a few years ago and really loved it. My husband is not a fan of goat’s milk anything, so I hadn’t bothered buying it before now. I had come across some information a few months ago about how goat’s milk products are much easier to digest and that they can be used for babies that have trouble with cow’s milk. Well, the cow’s milk cottage cheese went over like a bag of bricks. He had terrible gas and a rash on his tush that night. He loved the taste, but I ended up eating the rest of the container. Luckily I love me some cottage cheese.
Now let’s talk about how much Miles loooooves his yogurt. I buy the plain yogurt and add my own ingredients to it. His absolute favorite is yogurt and apple juice. He can’t get enough. Sometimes he tries to grab the bowl out of my hands, so he can just pour it down his gullet. I’ve mixed it with yams, spinach, mango, apples, cereal and pretty much anything else he eats. The crazy thing is he doesn’t mind eating it straight! It takes him about 2 weeks to get through one 32 ounce container of goat’s milk yogurt. It’s pretty dang expensive, (about $2 more than organic cow’s milk yogurt) but he loves it. Its not organic unfortunately, but there are no growth hormones or antibiotics used on the goats and that’s important to us.
For parents considering switching to goat’s milk instead of formula, please read up on it and visit this web site. I am still breast feeding. We just use one bottle at night because it fills him up more and he gets a full nights sleep. That makes for a happier baby and a much happier mama.

After having a great weekend with my friend from New Hampshire, (who will soon be my friend from Colorado) I feel refreshed and ready for another week.
